Quite likely. Or at least according to a report recently published by Tiger Mobiles. It recently featured several leaked images of a possible Nokia 5.1 Plus, and based on these pictures, it appears that HMD Global, the Finnish phone maker who now builds new generation Android powered Nokia smartphone devices, is doing away with the bezels (as found on the predecessor Nokia 5.1) and going instead for a front side notch design.
As seen on the leaked images, HMD Global’s rumored Nokia 5.1 Plus phablet seems to offer a 5.7 inch display screen. The famous Nokia logo has also moved from its top bezel position, and is now situated on the lower bezel. As for the volume controls, power button and headphone jack, they basically stick to their previous positions on the earlier Nokia 5.1 model. It should be mentioned, however, that the Nokia 5.1 Plus appears to have swapped out the micro USB port for a USB Type C port.
The leaked photos also suggest that rear side features the same placements for the fingerprint reader and the main camera. Speaking of which, the main camera looks to have been upgraded to a twin camera set up (as opposed to the previous model’s lone 16 megapixel camera configuration on the rear side). As far as color options are concerned, the images suggest a dark silver option, as well as another that is either light gray or white.
It was about more than a month ago when HMD Global had decided to unveil a trio of new Nokia branded smartphone devices. These were the Nokia 5.1, the Nokia 3.1, and the Nokia 2.1. As its name suggests, the Nokia 5.1 was an obvious upgrade to last year’s Nokia 5. It came with some improvements over its predecessor, including a larger display (by 0.3 inches), a thinner frame (by two millimeters), and a higher resolution Full HD+ screen, plus an aspect ratio of 18 to 9. On top of that, the Nokia 5.1 also sported an improved 16 megapixel camera (that featured phase detection auto focus) on the rear side, as well as a wide angle sensor on the front side. With regards to pricing and availability, the Nokia 5.1 will be sold at around $218, and is said to launch some time within this month in three color options (black, copper, and tempered blue).
