Barely a day after the launch of T-Mobile's $100.00 Family Plan, Sprint is introducing its own Family Share Pack. This new Family Share plan should give Sprint's subscribers (and their families) twice the amount of share data for up to a maximum of 10 lines of service.
Paying $100.00 each month, customers who avail of this plan get to enjoy 20 gigabytes of high-speed shared data, as well as unlimited calls and texting for up to 10 lines. If subscribers don't use the full 10 service lines, they will still be required to play the $100.00 for the monthly 20 gigabytes usage.
Also, Sprint is also offering a bonus 2 gigabytes of data per line each month at no additional cost. So if customers are using all 10 lines of service, they'll get a total of 40 gigabytes to share in a month. However, this bonus inclusion is offered on a limited basis only.
Although similar to Sprint's old Framily Plan, the new Family Share plan is a completely separate offering by the carrier. The main difference is that those who subscribe to the Family Share plan will not be able to avail of additional discounts for every line of service added to their accounts. Moreover, in the Family Share plan, all 10 lines are covered in one billing, sent to only one billing address every month.
Is There A Catch?
Yes, there is. Sprint has confirmed that it will waive the plan's access fees, but only until the year 2016. So if customers buy their smartphones through the carrier's Easy Pay financing option, they will need to pay the monthly fee of $15.00 starting 2016 and onwards. And they will need to pay this fee on top of the regular $100.00 monthly charge for the data usage.
It should be noted that that $15.00 will apply to every line that is connected to a device on Easy Pay. For instance, if customers are using all 10 lines of service, their monthly bill starting 2016 would be in the amount of $250.00 -- more than double the $100.00 they're paying regularly each month.
Customers can still take advantage of the waived fees that are offered on a limited time only. But to do so, they will be required to switch their number to Sprint from another carrier, and they will have to buy their devices via Easy Pay.
In summary, customers will have to shoulder $100.00 every month for using 2 to 10 lines of service until January 2016. Starting 2016 and onwards, customers will be required to pay $100.00 per month, plus $15.00 for every Easy Pay device.
As for current Sprint subscribers, they will not be able to take advantage of the waived access fees (by switching over to this new Family Share plan) because, per Sprint, that privilege is allowed for new customers only. On the positive side, they can still enjoy 20 megabytes of data for 4 lines of service for only $160.00 monthly, which is a lot to enjoy compared to what is currently being offered by similar plans from T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T. Lastly, current customers may still qualify for the 2 gigabyte per line bonus data per month. Learn more about what Spring is offering -- start comparing Sprint plans here.
