T-Mobile may have been edged by Sprint in terms of pricing for unlimited data when the latter introduced its $60 Unlimited Plan days ago. But now, the Uncarrier is introducing a new plan that it claims will prevent Sprint's customers from suffering a terrible fate.
Beginning next week, T-Mobile subscribers who can convince any of their friends who are currently using Sprint, AT&T, or Verizon to switch to a T-Mobile Simple Choice Plan will get to enjoy one year of free unlimited LTE data. Or, if the subscribers are already under an unlimited LTE plan, they'll receive a monthly bill credit of $10.00.
The friends who switched to T-Mobile, or the "rescued" friends, will also get an added incentive from the carrier. The reward will in the form of twelve months free unlimited high-speed data access.
Essentially, a rescued friend can switch to a $50 Simple Choice plan, which typically includes only 1 gigabyte of LTE data and is considered the most budget-friendly of all the Simple Choice plans, and then enjoy unlimited high-speed data for the first year without incurring any added costs at all. Normally, to get unlimited LTE data service, T-Mobile customers have to pay $80.00 every month for an individual line of service, as part of the carrier's $80 Simple Choice Unlimited offer.
This new T-Mobile promo will start on Friday, August 29. However, the Uncarrier has expressly stated that this newly introduced plan is a limited-time offer only.
Furthermore, the offer will not be available to all of T-Mobile's current subscribers. As a matter of fact, only customers signed up under Simple Choice post-paid plans can qualify for the referral credit. Additionally, in order for the customer to become eligible, the friend they rescued must sign up for a Simple Choice plan.
As for the one year of free unlimited LTE data service or bill credits, it will be honored as long as T-Mobile customers and their referred friends keep their accounts active, in good order, and with no plan changes. Which means that the moment a customer or his rescued friend changes a plan, cancels a line of service, or misses a payment date, both of them will lose the unlimited data usage, not to mention the $10.00 savings every month.
Moreover, this offer is available for a single line only. So customers with more than one line of service can only enjoy extra LTE use or credit on only one line in their account.
Also, every T-Mobile customer is only allowed one friend referral. So in order to take advantage of the reward, customers must report their referral to T-Mobile within 30 days from the date their friend signed up.
T-Mobile and Sprint may be going at each other now in order to grab more customers, but interestingly enough just a month ago, both carriers were about to join forces against AT&T and Verizon. The deal never took off, of course, and amidst some internal changes (most notably, the appointment of a new CEO for Sprint), the two companies are back to being rivals again.
