In the past, Dish Network has been called a spectrum hoarder. This is because it has been collecting lots of bandwidth. Since the bandwidth is not being used, many are seeking it out.
Because of this, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has allowed some of this spectrum to be shared. However, Dish has been against this idea and is fighting for its spectrum. However, the latest FCC lawsuit against Dish shows a favorable decision for the government agency.
As reported by PhoneArena, a D.C. Court has found that Dish cheated on its 5G spectrum bidding by making it look like they are unrelated to a couple of companies. This is in regards to the $3.4 billion billing credits won by both Designated Entities (DE)- Northstar Wireless and SNR Wireless, who both won in the FCC’s AWS-3 spectrum bidding a few years ago.
The FCC made sure that smaller players get a chance to place a bid and buy some spectrum. But despite its warnings, Dish quietly founded the two companies that won the spectrum.
Now that this has been discovered by the D.C. Court, the permissions need to be revoked. Dish has appealed to this but may eventually lose the rights to the spectrum.
