There’s no denying the fact that eSIMs will one day be the standard for all devices. When this day comes, there will no longer be a need for physical SIM cards. But this is still something that smartphone manufacturers and wireless carriers are working on. For now, there are only a few devices that have adapted to the eSIM revolution. Thankfully, Google has quietly rolled out a new eSIM transfer tool for Android devices.
As spotted by one of Android Police’s readers, there is now an option to transfer via eSIM from an LG V60 ThinQ to a Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra simply by scanning a QR code. After hearing this, the outlet tried it out on the Pixel 8 Pro and another Galaxy S24 Ultra device.
As it turns out, Samsung’s SIM transfer tool first rolled out with the One UI 5.1 update. The feature only worked on Galaxy devices with this update. But as checked by a Reddit user, the One UI 6.1 update now makes the tool compatible with non-Galaxy devices.
But before you test it out on your device, there is another limitation. Right now, the tool is restricted to certain users. Android Police also reported that the tool currently appears to work with eSIM profiles connected to T-Mobile.
Hopefully, this tool becomes available to other wireless networks in the future.
