Just a few days ago, LG unveiled a couple of flagship smartphones, the LG V50 ThinQ and the LG G8 ThinQ. Despite being launched at the same time, these two devices are actually very diverse and target different markets. For starters, the V50 ThinQ is LG’s very first 5G smartphone. The company, however, intends to launch a few other 5G devices in the future.
The LG V50 ThinQ comes with a 6.4-inch OLED display with a 1440x3120 resolution. It is powered by a 2.84GHz Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor with 6GB of RAM, 128GB onboard storage, and up to 400GB memory expansion via a microSD card. This phone comes with three cameras on the back: two 12-megapixel sensors with a 4K video recorder and a 16-megapixel ultra-wide sensor. In front, there is an 8-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls.
Apart from 5G capability, the other features that you can find in this phone include NFC, fingerprint sensor, facial recognition, a 4,000mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 charging technology, and a waterproof frame. Upon release, this device runs Android 9.0 Pie.
Meanwhile, the other device that LG unveiled today is the LG G8 ThinQ. This smartphone comes with a smaller 6.1-inch OLED display with a 1440x3120 resolution. The same 2.84GHz Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor is available with 6GB of RAM, 128GB onboard storage and up to 2000GB memory expansion via a microSD card. Instead of the triple camera configuration on the V50 ThinQ, the G8 ThinQ comes with a dual camera setup on the back with a 12-megapixel main camera with 4K video recording and a 16-megapixel secondary sensor. An 8-megapixel camera is also available in front.
Other features available in this smartphone model include IP68 certification, facial recognition, fingerprint sensor, and a 3,500mAh battery. The device also runs Android 9.0 Pie upon release.
As mentioned, the V50 ThinQ is LG’s first 5G device. Although 5G is not yet readily available in the U.S., it’s good to see that smartphone manufacturers are taking necessary steps to produce options for customers in the future.
