Earlier this year, Samsung unveiled its self-service repair program as part of its response to the request of eco-activists, governments, and enthusiasts.
Although the program has been live for a few months now, the program does not include too many Samsung devices. The only devices that are supported by the self-service repair program are the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S21, and Galaxy Tab S7+. As reported by PhoneArena, it looks like the smartphone manufacturer has plans to expand this program and welcome more models.
The South Korean manufacturer recently filed a patent trademark application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) that it dubbed as “Self Repair Assistant.” This is the name of an upcoming app that will provide assistance to Samsung device users so they can repair, maintain, and do a self-installation on their devices. The patent reveals that the app will provide its users guidance, information, and easy access to order replacement parts.
Once the app is launched, it could mean that Samsung’s existing partnership with iFixit could be ending soon. iFixit is the one taking care of the self repair services right now. But then again, this isn’t an official announcement yet. We’ll have to wait until Samsung makes this official.
