Yesterday, we reported about the phishing attack that Verizon subscribers received over the weekend. And today, it looks like its prepaid brand, Visible, is the latest to be victimized by a security breach.
The breach was confirmed by a Visible employee last night on Reddit. The post read:
“We’re currently investigating an incident where information on a small number of member accounts was changed without their authorization. We’re working hard to take protective steps to secure these accounts.
We don't believe that any Visible systems have been breached or compromised, nor that this unauthorized access to your Visible account is ongoing. However, for your protection, we recommend you review your account contact information and change your password and security questions to your Visible account. We also recommend that you review any other accounts that share the same email, login, or password, and make any changes you determine necessary to secure those accounts.”
According to the employee, Visible is already “investigating an incident where information on a small number of member accounts was changed without their authorization. We’re working hard to take protective steps to secure these accounts.”
As of this writing, there is no mention of how many accounts may have been compromised. But there have been several posts by Visible customers detailing their experience with the breach. Visible has encouraged its customers to change their passwords and their answers to security questions. Some users, however, have found this challenging; like @KingOfTechDeals, who shared a screenshot of his struggle to BestMVNO.
While trying to reset his password, he received a message that read: “Sit tight. Resetting your password is unavailable at the moment. Please try again later.”
Another user shared that the password requests are heading to the email accounts of the hackers. It’s possible that Visible has implemented a security fix that disabled password resets temporarily.
There is another post on Reddit by another Visible subscriber, who received notification from Visible that they have changed their email address, shipping and service address. This morning, the same subscriber discovered that his bank account was already charged $1,175.85 via PayPal.
Right now, there is no update from Visible on what the status of the attack is. We’ll continue to monitor the situation as it progresses throughout the day.
