Apple is getting ready to reveal its latest iPhone 14 lineup. But just before it does, the Brazilian government has suspended sales of these devices in the country.
Earlier today, the Brazilian government issued an order that suspends any iPhone sale that does not include a charger inside its box. This is a huge blow for Apple since they have removed the inclusion of their chargers since the iPhone 12.
Reuters recently reported on this order after the prohibition was published in Brazil’s official gazette. The reason behind this decision is that Apple’s removal of a charger in each sale constitutes a “deliberate discriminatory practice against consumers.” The company defended its decision stating that it was made over environmental concerns. Unfortunately, this did not get the nod of Brazilian judges.
The order means that any iPhone device released within the last 3 years can’t be sold in Brazil legally, unless these will be sold with a charger in its box. To fight against the order, other manufacturers have included a charger in each device it sold. Despite not including a charger in its recent devices, Samsung included one with the new Galaxy Z Fold4 and Z Flip4. This is their way of avoiding any altercations with the government.
Apple has not released an official statement regarding this decision yet.
