Dish Network has released its numbers in a report (via PCMag). This meets its commitment to the government to offer 5G service to over 20% of the population by the middle of June. The report shows that around 73 million Americans are now covered by Dish’s 5G airwaves.
To be more precise, the report details that 21.7% of the US population is now covered by Dish’s Project Genesis 5G service. This roughly translates to 72,769,696 people.
In order to get that many people, Dish has opted not to restrict signups based on a customer’s capacity. Instead, it focuses on the location of the customer. “If the [customer’s] address point is within our service coverage, the customer proceeds with the enrollment process.”
As of this writing, Project Genesis has not published an actual coverage map. Its plans aren’t being publicized too much and more importantly, the service only works on two phone models, the Samsung Galaxy S22 and Motorola Edge+. These are important factors that limit the number of people who would be interested to sign up for the service.
But according to the report, Dish intends to launch its new ‘Boost Infinite’ brand this fall. This will be the real rollout for the service. By then, its numbers are expected to significantly improve.
