Dish Network is making a brave and bold move. Earlier today, it was reported that the satellite TV company will be launching a new postpaid brand. Even though it already owns Ting, Dish plans to go after the big three wireless carriers at their own game.
According to the report, Dish plans to launch this unnamed postpaid brand sometime in 2022. The report says that Dish will be taking its “best prepaid customers” and will be moving them over to the new brand. By the time the new brand launches, customers could already be able to enjoy 5G connectivity.
Right now, it’s unclear whether or not this report should be taken seriously or with a grain of salt. Company co-founder and chairman, Charlie Ergen, has a history of overpromising plans for the network. But at this point, it is clear that Dish intends to reevaluate its complicated relationship with T-Mobile. One way they are addressing this is by partnering with AT&T as a second network partner for prepaid Boost Mobile customers to choose.
Hopefully, if Dish pushes through with its plans to launch this new postpaid brand, it will give customers more options to choose from.
