Yesterday, T-Mobile gave an update about the recent cybersecurity attack that they encountered. They disclosed that 48 million former and existing customers have had their customer data stolen in the hack. Now, it looks like more numbers are coming in.
T-Mobile recently updated its report on their 2021 Cybersecurity attack findings. In addition to the earlier reported 7.8 million existing T-Mobile postpaid customers that were part of the attack, T-Mo discovered another 5.3 million customers that had their information stolen from them.
The stolen information included their customer names, birthdays, addresses, phone numbers, IMEIs, and IMSIs. These customers did not have their SSNs or IDs/driver’s license information stolen.
The report also added 667,000 victims to the number of former T-Mobile subscribers making the total 40,667,000.
And sadly, Metro by T-Mobile subscribers seem to be included in the attack despite T-Mo’s initial announcement. The Un-carrier recently discovered 52,000 Metro by T-Mobile customers that were included in the attack.
Meanwhile, they still haven't found any reason for previous Sprint prepaid and Boost Mobile customers to worry about getting their info hacked.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced that they will be looking into the situation. But at least one class-action lawsuit has already been filed against T-Mobile. The agency also revealed that T-Mobile’s promise of a two-year McAfee identity protection to its customers is “inadequate”.
