This week sees Motorola welcome new additions to its Moto G and Moto E lineup of smartphones -- meet the Moto G6, the Moto G6 Plus and the Moto G6 Play models, as well as the Moto E5, the Moto E5 Plus, and the Moto E5 Play handsets. According to the phone maker’s official press release, each of these new Moto devices focus on display, design, and power, taking full advantage of Qualcomm Snapdragon chip sets and the innovations brought by Google’s Android 8.0 Oreo mobile operating system.
First off is the Moto G6 family. The regular Moto G6 offers a 5.7 inch Full HD Max Vision display screen, paired nicely with a 3D glass rear casing. The dual camera configuration consisting of 12 megapixel and 5 megapixel cameras are complemented with some nifty photography features that allow users to produce quality portraits, black and white imagery, and some fun face filters.
The bigger sibling is the Moto G6 Plus, which comes in at 5.9 inches, with an aspect ratio of 18 to 9. With a camera that comes with a generous f/1.7 aperture and 1.4 um pixel size, the phablet allows users to create detailed shots (even in minimum light conditions), further aided by a Dual Auto Focus Pixel technology. With additional features that include a smart camera set up that has support for text recognition, plus landmark and object identification capabilities.
As for the Moto G6 Play, it is no surprise that its most notable specifications put more attention to power and processing, as evidenced by the massive 4,000 mAh battery (which is said to be capable of lasting up to 36 hours on just one charge), and a 1.4 GigaHertz chip, which is equally comfortable with either launching mobile apps, accessing images, or playing games.
We move on to the Moto E5, whose 5.7 inch Max Vision display is made surprisingly easy to handle with the help of a curved rear back designed for optimum ergonomics and an 18 to 9 aspect ratio. Interested buyers will no doubt enjoy the unlocking abilities of the fingerprint scanner (discreetly camouflaged against the familiar Motorola logo), which provides easy access to mobile alerts, phone calls, or the home screen.
The biggest and perhaps the mightiest of the bunch is the Moto E5 Plus, which marries its commanding 6 inch Max Vision screen with a gargantuan 5,000 mAh battery. Like the smaller Moto E5, the Moto E5 Plus boasts a curved rear casing, but combines that with a distinct wave pattern that exudes some reflective elegance.
Last but not the least is the Moto E5 Play -- this model serves up a 5.2 inch HD display, paired with an 8 megapixel auto focus camera on the rear side. Adventurous users might be delighted to know that the water repellent coatings should help protect the device from accidental water damage.
