Cricket is now requiring customers to provide a photo ID for in-store requests.
Jeff Moore of Wave7 Research tweeted a photo of the store announcement from a Tennessee Cricket store from last September 19th.
According to their source, this has been implemented by Cricket since July. And 60% of the store’s customers have been unhappy about this move.
It only makes sense for Cricket to require photo IDs to ensure their customers’ information doesn’t fall into the wrong hands.
And as shared by a former Cricket dealer employee, this could be a move that goes deeper than security. That’s because some people contact customer service on the behalf of their relatives. There are even some cases when dealers get embroiled in a marital dispute or divorce proceeding since “one or the other party would make drastic changes against the other.”
Another response to the tweet showed support to the photo ID requirement: “They should have been doing this all along. I don’t want a random person to be able to access my account without authorization. Blows my mind that people get upset about this…”
